How Long Does an AIO Vape Last? Puffs, Battery and Shelf Life

By Alex Rumi

A 1 g all-in-one vape usually gives somewhere around 200 to 300 short draws. At a few draws a day, that's two to three months. At ten a day, it's three to four weeks. The battery is rechargeable, so it rarely decides when an AIO is finished. The oil does. A sealed AIO stored at room temperature keeps its flavour for months, and an opened one slowly fades over weeks.

"The battery died before the oil ran out" is one of the questions retailers pass on to us most about our all-in-ones. Usually the answer is just to charge it. This guide covers how many draws to expect, what makes an AIO run out faster, and how to tell whether yours is empty, flat or just old.

How Many Puffs Are in a 1g AIO Vape?

Roughly 200 to 300 short draws of three to four seconds each. The real number depends mostly on how you draw. A long, deep pull vaporises more oil than a short one, so the same gram can last twice as long for one person as for another.

Here's what that range works out to:

How you use it Draws a day How long a 1 g AIO lasts
Occasionally 2 to 3 2 to 3 months
Most days 5 6 to 8 weeks
Regularly 10 3 to 4 weeks
Heavily 25 or more 1 to 2 weeks

A 0.5 g AIO, like our Gluerangutan Live Rosin AIO, lasts about half as long at the same pace.

Key finding: How long an AIO lasts depends more on how you draw than on the device. Short, slow draws stretch a gram furthest.

What Makes an AIO Run Out Faster?

  1. Long draws. Every extra second on the draw vaporises more oil. Our CCELL Mini Tank cuts out at 10 seconds, but three to four is plenty.

  2. Chain draws. Drawing again before the ceramic has re-soaked burns through oil faster and tastes harsh. Leave about 30 seconds between draws.

  3. Heat. An AIO left in a hot car or a sunny window gets thinner oil, which can creep into the airway and set there. That oil is hard to get back.

  4. Storing it on its side. Resin can settle into the airway instead of staying in the tank. Keep it mouthpiece-up.

Does the Battery Last as Long as the Oil?

Not always, and that's fine. Most AIOs, ours included, have a small rechargeable battery. "Disposable" means you can't refill it, not that it's done when the battery runs low. Light users often finish the gram on the first charge. Heavier users may need to recharge it before it's empty.

Our cured resin AIOs run on CCELL Mini Tank hardware with a 180 mAh battery and a USB-C port. When the light flashes 10 times as you draw, it needs charging. Plug it in until the light goes off, and charge it indoors: the Mini Tank charges between 10°C and 45°C, so a cold car won't do it.

If your AIO stopped working with oil still in the window, charge it before you do anything else. That fixes most "dead" AIOs that come back to stores. For other problems, read New AIO Vape Not Hitting or Clogged?

How Do I Know When My AIO Is Empty?

Look at the window and pay attention to the taste. When you can't see resin in the tank and the vapour starts to thin, you're down to what's in the ceramic atomiser, usually a few more draws. Once it tastes dry or burnt, it's finished. Drawing past that point just heats an empty atomiser.

A new AIO can look less than full. Part of the oil soaks into the atomiser after filling, which leaves an air gap at the top of the tank. That's headspace, and it's normal. We fill every GOOD BUDS vape ourselves on the farm, by weight, on a machine accurate to 0.01 g, so the full gram is there.

How Long Does an AIO Vape Last Before It Goes Stale?

Sealed, for months. Opened, the flavour slowly fades. Cannabis oil doesn't spoil like food, but terpenes, the compounds that carry a strain's smell and taste, are volatile. Air, heat and light all wear them down over time.

Unopened: kept sealed, at room temperature and out of the sun, an AIO holds its flavour for many months.

Opened: once it's out of the package and in use, expect the flavour to soften over the following weeks and months. Finishing it within a month or two keeps it at its best.

Colour: resin can darken a little over time. That's normal and isn't a sign it has gone bad.

The packaging date on the label tells you when the vape was filled and sealed. For vapes, that can be well after the oil was made, so treat it as a rough guide. Our guide to finding fresh cannabis explains how to read it.

Our resin is extracted soon after harvest and kept in cold storage until we fill it. Because we grow outdoors and harvest once a year, that matters: the resin keeps the season's terpenes longer than dried flower from the same harvest would.

How Should I Store an AIO So It Lasts?

  • Keep it mouthpiece-up whenever you put it down

  • Keep it at room temperature, out of hot cars, cold cars and direct sun

  • Avoid taking it straight from cold to warm or the reverse

  • Keep the mouthpiece out of linty pockets

  • Charge it when the light flashes 10 times, rather than waiting until it won't fire

Don't keep it in the fridge or freezer. Cold thickens resin, which is the most common reason a new AIO won't hit.

Does a Resin AIO Last as Long as a Distillate AIO?

A gram is a gram. How long an AIO lasts depends mostly on how you draw, not on what's in the tank. The difference between a resin AIO and a distillate AIO is in the oil itself: resin keeps the plant's own terpenes, while distillate is refined and usually has terpenes added back. Our cured resin AIOs sit in roughly the same price range as distillate AIOs.
