Our Story
We grow cannabis the way we think it should be grown — in living soil, without synthetic inputs, on an island most people only visit.
GOOD BUDS started on Salt Spring Island in 2017 when brothers Tyler and Alex Rumi decided to build a cannabis farm from scratch — in living soil, by the ocean, without shortcuts.
Tyler had been growing cannabis since 2005. Alex brought the business side. Ryan Mant, Tyler's collaborator since grade school, runs the outdoor operation. Between the three of them, there isn't much they haven't figured out the hard way.
In 2019 we became Canada's first licensed outdoor cannabis cultivator. In 2020 we achieved FVOPA organic certification for both indoor and outdoor cultivation. Everything we've built since has come from that same farm.
Mission & Values
Living Soil beds
Our cannabis is grown in active living soil beds — the same beds, amended and reused season after season. No synthetic inputs, no synthetic grow medium. FVOPA Certified for both indoor and outdoor cultivation.
clean water-fed
Our plants are irrigated exclusively with collected rainwater. No municipal water, no synthetic nutrient additives. Clean inputs from the ground up.
Built to Last
No single-use plastic pots, no synthetic grow medium. We run on regenerative practices - improving the soil every year.
House-Bred strains
Every strain we grow started with a selection we made ourselves. Gluerangutan was pheno-hunted from 150,000 plants over three outdoor seasons. These aren't licensed genetics — they're ours.
Salt Spring Island RootS
We're independently owned, family-run, and based on Salt Spring Island. Tyler and Alex Rumi started this in 2017 and it's still just the two of them at the top — along with a small, dedicated team who know this farm as well as they do.

He oversees all cultivation decisions and is the primary architect of the farm's living soil system.
